TDC Launches the "We can make a difference" Clean-Up Campaign

Plattsburgh, NY – May 12, 2010 – The Development Corporation (TDC) announced today that it was launching a community-wide effort to help combat litter. The campaign is intended to energize local community members to join together and clean-up the litter that is, unfortunately, evident in many areas of the County. The Development Corporation is distributing oxo-biodegradable litter bags to help with the clean-up. A supply of bags has been sent to each of the 42 members of the Board of Directors of The Development Corporation and bags will be available at The Development Corporation’s booth at the Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce Business Expo on May 20, 2010.
“We all benefit from a cleaner community, and a collective clean-up effort will help raise the consciousness about litter and get our County looking its best as we approach the very busy summer tourist season,” said Adoré Flynn Kurtz, President of The Development Corporation. Ms. Kurtz added, “While we can often feel frustrated by the economy, budget-cuts and things that are seemingly out of our control, litter is something we can and need to control locally. All of us in Clinton County need to join together to take on this problem and to build upon the positive momentum created by other community initiatives to combat litter such as Earth Day and the Adopt-a- Highway program.”
To reinforce the campaign’s goal, The Development Corporation imprinted the bags with taglines such as “Plattsburgh Proud”, “Instructions: Place Eyesores Here”, “We Cannot Count on the Wind”, “How to Improve Your Commute”, and “Pick of the Litter”. Each bag also reminds community members that they need to properly dispose of the litter and encourages them to recycle. In addition, all bags reinforce the community call to action phrase of, “I care – and we can make a difference”.
