Nova Bus Opens Its Doors to a Promising Future in Plattsburgh, NY

July 2009 Issue

Nova Bus officially opened the doors of its Plattsburgh, NY bus assembly plant on June 15, 2009. The company shared the plant’s grand opening with employees and community leaders as they introduced Nova Bus to the region.

This was a momentous occasion for both the company and the various economic development entities who were involved in bringing Nova Bus to Plattsburgh. Nova Bus was able to take advantage of a shovel-ready site located in The Development Corporation’s Banker Road Industrial Park, and transform it into a beautiful 136,000 SF state-of-the-art facility that is now home to nearly 200 employees; a number that is expected to grow to 300 by 2012. The company’s choice of Plattsburgh reinforces the importance of the region’s Canadian connection and highlights Clinton County’s importance to the transportation industry.

Guests received a warm introduction to the company by Plattsburgh Plant Manager, Jim Tooley as well as Nova Bus President and CEO, Gilles Dion. Together they recognized and congratulated the new employees of the facility and acknowledged the importance of the support received from the local community. Local representatives, Bernie Bassett, Town of Plattsburgh’s Supervisor, Adoré Flynn Kurtz, The Development Corporation’s President and Garry Douglas, Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce President, spoke on behalf of the community to welcome and salute Nova Bus on their commitment to Plattsburgh and to its employees.

Nova Bus has already begun production on buses for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics as well as New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority. At the conclusion of the ceremony, guests were invited to take a guided tour of the plant.
