PRESS RELEASE - 6/18/2009
Plattsburgh, NY –June 17, 2009 – The City of Plattsburgh has announced a new partnership with The Development Corporation, Clinton County NY. TDC is now the administrator of the City of Plattsburgh Empire Zone Program and Zone Administrative Board. The City and TDC have successfully collaborated on many economic development projects over the years and this most recent partnership will be a continuation of the longstanding and productive relationship between the two entities.
“The City of Plattsburgh and the Development Corporation have enjoyed an excellent partnership over the years. Economic development is the key to success for the entire North Country and I am pleased to once again work closely with Adoré Flynn Kurtz and her staff and Board of Directors with this new partnership,” said Mayor Donald M. Kasprzak.
The NYS Empire Zone Program was created to stimulate economic growth through a variety of state tax incentives designed to attract new businesses to NY State and to enable existing businesses to expand and create more jobs. The City’s Empire Zone is one of the oldest in the state and has been a major impetus for job retention and growth in the community. The zone, whose Zone Administrative Board is chaired by Don Duley, consists of two square miles of designated land in locations throughout both the City and Town of Plattsburgh, and includes a mix of commercial, retail and industrial properties. The goal of the City of Plattsburgh Empire Zone is to maintain and increase Plattsburgh’s economic vitality by assisting businesses in creating and maintaining quality jobs for the local people.
Adoré Flynn Kurtz, President of the Development Corporation, said, “The Development Corporation has the professional economic development capacity to be able to offer its services to the City without charge. TDC respects all of the critical work of the Zone Administrative Board and the City’s staff that has provided such an excellent foundation for the work we will continue. Our Board of Directors and our staff are pleased to be of service.”
For several years, The Development Corporation has effectively administered the Clinton County Empire Zone and its Zone Administrative Board as well.
