The Development Corporation has a great story to tell. Through its collaborative efforts it has been remarkably successful in coordinating and developing Clinton County's economy. In the early 1960's, a group of local businessmen recognized the need to have a coordinated effort to market the area to industry. At this time they also realized that without the ready land and facilities to accommodate industry, the community would not be able to fully reach its potential. This core group of business persons' ideas served as the impetus for The Development Corporation, which was incorporated in 1961, first as New Industries of Clinton County and later as Clinton County Area Development Corporation. The company worked with an innovative plan of achieving economic growth through a partnership with Clinton County, government, local businesses and banks.

The County sold property adjacent to its airport to The Development Company for development into its first industrial park (Air Industrial Park), and also provided office space for the company. Committed individuals of the early corporation actually participated personally in the early financing of projects to facilitate industry, and professionally in recommending loan approvals for building projects. The early land acquisitions and building projects were a resounding success.

Over time, these projects allowed the Corporation to become independent of the County, while maintaining a cooperative relationship. After more than forty (40) years, new partnerships are underway with the County through distinct contracts for administration of its Industrial Development Agency and the Clinton County Empire Zone marketing and redevelopment of Plattsburgh International Airport.

There have been only three corporation Presidents in the 45 year history of The Development Corporation, an impressive testament to the commitment of loyal leadership. The Development Corporation has also worked to set an example of good corporate and community citizenship, an idea that it espouses to all businesses with which it works.

The Development Corporation of Clinton County has had robust success. Board members agree that it is the community leaders who have comprised its Board of Directors, its active committees among these Directors, its visionary executive leadership and dedicated staff who have been responsible for this success. Collectively, these people share a long-term vision for success and efficiency, and the drive to make the company successful as a catalyst for economic activity far into the future. This vision has matured along the way, but has always stayed true to the company's mission.
